Mechanism of cyanide inhibition of Phloem translocation.

چکیده

Petiolar application of potassium cyanide inhibited (14)C-assimilate translocation without affecting source leaf photosynthesis or phloem loading of sucrose in Phaseolus vulgaris. The inhibition of transport was correlated with disruption of the structural integrity of the sieve tubes (sieve pore blockage) rather than impairment of a metabolic process in the translocation path driving translocation.

Translocation of Sugars in Cucurbita melopepo IV. Effects of Temperature Change.

A study has been made of the temperature control of translocation localized to regions of the stem, petiole and hypocotyl of Cucurbita melopepo. The basipetal and acropetal movement of translocated (14)C-labeled compounds in the phloem tissue, measured over a 45-minute period, was almost completely inhibited at 0 degrees . At 10 degrees a partial inhibition occurred while an extremely variable ...

Understanding the Mechanism Underlie the Antidiabetic Activity of Oleuropein Using Ex-Vivo Approach

Background: Oleuropein, the main constituent of olive fruit and leaves, has been reported to protect against insulin resistance and diabetes. While many experimental investigations have examined the mechanisms by which oleuropein improves insulin resistance and diabetes, much of these investigations have been carried out in either muscle cell lines or in vivo models two scenarios with many draw...

SALICYLIC ACID INHIBITION OF GERMINATION, ETHYLENE PRODUCTION AND RESPIRATION IN COCKLEBUR SEEDS

Salicylic acid (SA) inhibited germination of cocklebur (Xanthium pennsylvanicum Wlr), lower seeds, which are completely after-ripened and nondormant. SA also inhibited ethylene production during a pre-germination period of the seeds. Exogenous ethylene overcame the inhibtion of the seed germination by SA. Moreover, SA reduced respiration in pre-germinating whole seeds as well as excised axial...

Secondary Effects of Glyphosate Action in Phelipanche aegyptiaca: Inhibition of Solute Transport from the Host Plant to the Parasite

It is currently held that glyphosate efficiently controls the obligate holoparasite Phelipanche aegyptiaca (Egyptian broomrape) by inhibiting its endogenous shikimate pathway, thereby causing a deficiency in aromatic amino acids (AAA). While there is no argument regarding the shikimate pathway being the primary site of the herbicide's action, the fact that the parasite receives a constant suppl...

52Fe Translocation in Barley as Monitored by a Positron-Emitting Tracer Imaging System (PETIS): Evidence for the Direct Translocation of Fe from Roots to Young Leaves via Phloem

The real-time translocation of iron (Fe) in barley (Hordeum vulgare L. cv. Ehimehadaka no. 1) was visualized using the positron-emitting tracer (52)Fe and a positron-emitting tracer imaging system (PETIS). PETIS allowed us to monitor Fe translocation in barley non-destructively under various conditions. In all cases, (52)Fe first accumulated at the basal part of the shoot, suggesting that this ...
